Nov 22, 2011
Please receive the November edition of the Fireaway Club Newsletter.
Next meeting takes place this Thursday, 24th November, Guildford bar, West Register Street, at 7:30pm. Socials are very relaxed, informal and held in the open bar area of the pub. So, if you've missed the last few, or not been before, the November meeting is an ideal opportunity to drop-in for a pint.
December Walk - Wednesday, 7th December 2011.
A walk is being arranged in the Pentland Hills, circular route from Swanston taking in Allermuir hill, followed by a meal in the Hunter Tryst pub. More details are available via the Latest News on the website. If you're interested there's a thread on the messageboard where you can add your name to give an indication of how many are likely to attend on day.
2) Football - English Premier League
The intention is to arrange a football trip for either Sunderland v Arsenal, Saturday 11th Feb 2012 or Sunderland v Liverpool, Saturday 10th March 2012. More details are available via the Latest News page on the website.
3) Golf Section (update by George Hunter)
The final golf match of the season was held at Liberton Golf Club on the 27th September. Six people turned out, on what proved to be a very blustery day. The match was won by G. Hunter (now there is a surprise!) with 34 points and second was Dougie Gordon with 31 points. Paul Edwards, who was formally presented with the Fireaway Cup from the previous match, was 3rd on 29 points.
Also present were Alan Scott, Brian Torrance and Willie Fordyce. There was no cup at stake this time and everyone just played for the hell of it! We had the course to ourselves and it was a very leisurely round.
During the after match dinner (no speeches!) varies ideas were put forward regarding future venues and even Spain was seriously considered! Wherever it is, it will not be until the spring as there is another long hard winter coming up.
Current membership stands at 151.
Circulated Thursday, 19th January 2012.
