FIREAWAY CLUB - DECEMBER NEWSLETTER
Please receive the December edition of the Fireaway Club Newsletter.

SOCIAL MEETINGS:
The last social of 2018 is scheduled for this coming Thursday, 29th November 2018.

Please note that this meeting has a change of start time and venue to 7:30pm, at The Booking Office pub, I7 Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh. This is a Wetherspoon's pub ideally located at the entrance to Waverley station.

Socials are very relaxed, informal and held in the open bar area of the pub.

For information, a number of members have indicated they'll be attending for the first time so it should be a good attendance for the last social of the year. All welcome.

EVENTS UPDATE:
1) Hillwalking:
A walk has been arranged for Tuesday, 11th December 2018 from Eddleston to Peebles.

Starting in Eddleston the walk will include a visit to the 'The Great Polish Map of Scotland' at Barony Castle then follow the Tweed Trail to Peebles. A walk of around 7/8miles.

Details:
10:30hrs - Meet opposite Horseshoe Inn in Eddleston.
10:45hrs - Walk Eddlestson to Peebles, including visit to Polish Map.
14:00hrs - Pub lunch Cross Keys Inn Peebles.

The number 62X bus from Edinburgh to Galashiels stops in Eddleston or you can park in Eddleston then bus it back from Peebles after the walk.

If you're interested please add your name to the thread on the messageboard or send an email to admin1@fireawayclub.com This will give an indication on who's likely to attend on the day. The thread also allows for arrangements regarding car-sharing to be made.

Everyone welcome including non-members.

2)New Book: 'Firefighters of Belfast'
Brian Allaway has been in touch to inform us of his new book about the fire service during the troubles in Belfast.

Details from Brian:
"As you may know, I am having a book published by Luath Press, an Edinburgh publisher, at the end of this month. It is titled 'Firefighters of Belfast' and tells the story of the fire service in Belfast during the troubles, 1969 to 1994, all of my royalties are to be donated to the FireFighters Charity. The back cover of the book gives a bit more of a description.

FIREAWAY FACEBOOK GROUP:
The Facebook group page keeps growing with more people joining and more photos and videos been posted. The group, to which all Fireaway members and ex-LBFRS employees are welcome to join, can be accessed at:
