Please receive the July edition of the Fireaway Club Newsletter.
The next meeting takes place a week today on Thursday, 31st July, Guildford Arms bar, West Register Street, at 7:30pm. Socials are very relaxed, informal and held in the open bar area of the pub. If you've missed the last few, or not been before, the July meeting is an ideal opportunity to drop-in for a pint.
A walk is being arranged for early August. Full details, when confirmed, will be available via the Latest News page on the website. Everyone welcome.
1) Australian Charity Cycle Trip:
Retired L&B colleague Kenny Wilson is considering organising a charity cycle run from Sydney to Cairns (1,700 miles) to raise funds for the Fire Service Charity. He'd love it if others could join him on the adventure.
As a rough guide Kenny estimates that anyone interested in coming along needs to put about 4 to 6 weeks aside for the trip plus plenty of planning meetings, training days and maybe training week-ends aside before getting to Australia. Please contact Kenny direct in you want to know more at email@example.com
a) Sad news with the passing of well known retired colleague Alastair McLeod on the 30th May 2014. Ali, who was 63, was a regular attender at the Fireaway socials held in the Guildford bar.
b) The death of James Lowrie was announced on 1st July 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Jim, 69, served on a number of watches and as a driving instructor at the Brigade Training Centre.
c) Former Sub Officer Ian McDougall died on the 2nd July 2014. Ian served at Marionville and HQ prior to his retirement.
