Please receive the March edition of the Fireaway Club Newsletter.
The next meeting takes place this Thursday, 30th March, at the Guildford Arms bar, West Register Street (from 7:30pm). Socials are very relaxed, informal and held in the open bar area of the pub.
(Please note: As we are about to hold a 'membership survey' - see details below - on all aspects of the Fireaway Club, including the venue for socials, this is likely be the last social held at the Guildford Arms pub)
1) Fireaway Club - Members Survey
Within the next month we intend to send out a survey to all Fireaway members. The survey will seek the members views on all aspects of the club including:- social meetings venue, events and the website. The intention is to update and improve the club which now has over 200 members. We'll post more details on the website Latest News page when we've finalised the survey contents
Were looking to form a 'walking committee' with a view to arranging more regular and varied walks. Further details will be circulated during the next few weeks.
1) Ian Anderson
Sad news with the announcement that our colleague Ian Anderson (57) passed away on Saturday 11th February 2017. Ian served 22 years at Melrose fire station. The funeral service was held on 17th February at Melrose Parish Church.
2) Alex Mees
Sad news with the announcement of the death of retired colleague Alex Mees (90) on Sunday, 12th February, 2017. His funeral was held on 20th February at Warriston Crematorium.
Alex visited the museum at Lauriston in September last year on its final open day before closing. In the Latest News page on the Fireaway website is a photo taken of Alex with his son and daughter-in-law, who accompanied him on the visit, in front of a large photo of the C&A’s fire in 1955 at which Alex drove and operated the TTL in the picture.
Two new member has joined recently bringing the current membership to 207. See the Latest News page on the website for the names of recently joined members.
