May 13, 2010
Please receive the May edition of the Fireaway Club newsletter.
George Hunter has started a golf section and has organised the first competition, the 'Fireaway Golf Cup', for 19th May 2010. Full details of the event (to which non-members of Fireaway are welcome) are available via the Latest News page and Messageboard on the website. Thanks to George for organising the event and he hopes to see as many as possible take part.
Social Club Meeting:
Next meeting takes place Thursday, 27th May, Guildford bar, West Register Street, at 7:30pm. If you've missed the last few socials, or not been before, the May meeting is an ideal opportunity to catch up with everyone.
A walk up Ben Lomond (Munro - 3195ft) has been arranged for Monday 7th June. There is the option of an overnight stay, at the Oak Tree Inn, (good bar apparently) for those who don't wish to travel home immediately after the walk. Full details are available via the Latest News page and Messageboard on the website. Thanks to Frank, as usual, for arranging the walk.
Two new pages have been added to the main menu on the website:
1) List of Events.
Current membership stands at 133.
Membership to the Fireaway Club is open to all retired LBFRS staff, however, we don't have a complete up-to-date address list for all retirees and are unable to write to everyone who is retired. If any members are in contact with anyone who has not received an invitation letter please pass on the website details/password and inform them they are welcome to join.
John Mable's retirement function, to which all retired members are invited, is scheduled for Tuesday, 1st June 2010. Full details of the venue/time are available via the 'Latest News' page on the website.
Next newsletter circulated Thursday, 22 July 2010.
