Sad news with the announcement of the death of retired colleague Ian McMurtrie. Ian passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday morning (8 August).

Ian was a retired Assistant Firemaster and the honorary curator of the Museum of Fire in Lauriston Place, Edinburgh.

Ian McMurtrie was from a long line of serving fire officers, his great grandfather, grandfather, his grandfather's two brothers, two cousins and Ian's own two sons were all in the fire service with Ian himself joining in 1949. He spent a considerable amount of his time at the Museum of Fire once he retired and was very much a well-kent face and font of knowledge on the fire service and firefighting history.

The funeral service is due to take place on Monday (17 August) at 12 noon in St Ninian's Church, 144 St John's Road, Edinburgh, EH12 8AY.

There will be a private burial following the service, before a wake takes place at the Holiday Inn Edinburgh, 132 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UA.

Family flowers only. A collection will be taken at the service in aid of the Museum of Fire in Edinburgh.
