Fire Museum - Request for Help
posted on website -- Nov 2, 2016 --

Colin Fraser, on behalf of the 'Friends of the Museum', has forwarded the undernoted request for assistance in packing/storing the museum collection into temporary accommodation prior to the permanent move from within the Lauriston HQ building to McDonald Rd fire station.

Any assistance Fireaway Club members can provide will be greatly appreciated by Colin and the team organising the relocation.

"Hi Folks,

As you are probably aware the Museum of Fire has lost its fight to stay at Lauriston. Edinburgh University has bought it for their College of Art and will not be turned into student flats or another hotel as we had feared.

However the museums collection is having to be packed up and put into temporary storage before moving back into a newly designed museum within McDonald Road Fire Station.

We have been told we have to be out by the end of November and so we would like to appeal to our retired members if they can help the museum out.

If any of you could come along Monday - Friday and help out with the packing and dismantling of the collection your assistance would be much appreciated. It can be a time that suits you and it doesn't have to be heavy work as there is lots of smaller items needing packed.

If you want to help the museum please contact Davy Farries (dave.farries@firescotland.gov.uk) 07979693914 or Colin Fraser,(brodie289@virginmedia.com), 07447940129.

Thanking you in advance of the rush to the museum and hope to see some old faces.

Colin Fraser"
