Sad news with the announcement the death of colleague Jayne Cooney who was a serving firefighter at Newcastleton until very recently. The undernoted is the internal communication circulated by SFRS.

"Colleagues,

It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of our friend and colleague Firefighter Jayne Cooney who passed away on Friday 28 January 2022.

Jayne served as a Firefighter based at Newcastleton Community Fire Station and we are grateful for her commitment to the Service and the community she so faithfully served.

Our thoughts are with Jayne's family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

As a mark of respect, flags at all SFRS premises should be lowered to half-mast until sunset, in line with current SFRS protocols.

Please direct any messages of condolence to Station Commander Roy Bradley who will collate these for the family in his role as Family Liaison Officer.

The detail of Jayne's funeral will be circulated in due course.

Martin Blunden - Chief Officer"

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Thursday, 10th February 2022, 11:00hrs, Liddesdale Parish church, Montagu Street, Newcastle TD9 0QZ. There will be a funeral tea afterwards at: 11:45hrs, in the Grapes Hotel, 17 Douglas Square, Newcastleton.

A pony & trap and the personnel and friends from Newcastleton Fire Station will carry the coffin into the church. A collection will be taken in lieu of flowers. Jayne will be cremated later at the Borders Crematorium at a private family service.

Thanks to Dave Farries (Snr) for forwarding  the above information.
